Zion’s Adult Choir meets for rehearsal beginning the first Thursday after Labor Day in September and continues through the month of May and also sings for Pentecost Sunday even if that Sunday falls in the month of June. We sing once each week at worship rotating between the two services. On the 1st and 3rd Sundays the choir sings at the 8:30 A.M. service and on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at the 11:00 A.M. service.
In December, during the Season of Advent, we perform a traditional service of Lessons & Carols which is presented at the early service one week and the late service the next week. The historical Lessons & Carols service is a beautiful mix of Christmas carols and scripture readings all presented by the choir and includes some congregational singing.
After the Christmas break the choir returns to begin regular rehearsals in the new year preparing for Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter. For many years Zion’s choir has also participated in Kent Choir Night which is held on the first Sunday in May. This event is a concert for the public and involves about ten local church choirs. Each choir performs one or two songs and joins in the large combined choir selection at the end of the concert.
You do not need any prior singing experience to join our choir, just the desire to praise God with song and a grateful heart. The only thing I ask of all choir members is a commitment of your time and talent. A commitment to be at rehearsals on Thursday evenings and a commitment to be present for worship when the choir sings. If you do this and decide to become a choir member, I promise to make your singing experience truly rewarding and offer to you a wonderful way to become closer to God and to the many members of Zion whose worship experience is greatly enhanced by the choir’s music. I welcome you to join at any time during the year, even if you are just curious, I think if you try it, you’ll love it!
If you are interested in joining the choir or if you just have questions please do not hesitate to contact me, Linda Hartley, Adult Choir director. Or . . . just talk with any choir member and they can give me your name so I can contact you. Presently, the choir has about 30 members, but we are missing one thing: You! Please consider joining Zion’s choir and making a joyful noise to the Lord. All ages are invited—from high school through adult. Come and see, you’ll be glad you did!
Sincerely,
Linda Hartley, Adult Choir Director
